On Friday, we invoke the muse of motherhood to shine her light of inspiration upon us.
I remember very clearly working on the Bear – Protection card…feeling like a Mama Bear…all day long, my eyes and ears and heart watch Tulsi, attempting to keep her safe, healthy, happy, nourished. I explored several images for this card but in the end, I loved the image of a mother as a mama bear, both sheltering her children and being a soft landing if they fall.
I pray a lot for my daughter’s safety, and it is comforting to know that family and close friends pray for and watch over her, too. My dear friend+artist Kelly beaded an incredible turtle fetish for Tulsi that I shared about here.
After living in Nepal and traveling in India, I became rather fond of Ganesh, the Hindu elephant headed god — the remover of obstacles and protector. His image was everywhere there — over the doorways to homes, on rickshaws, in schools and chai shops (all kinds of shops), on taxi and bus dashboards, and at roadside shrines and temples. My daughter Tulsi affectionately calls Ganesh, “Ga Ga”. A few years ago, I painted this Ganesh image and printed postcards, and I thought you might like one for your home or child’s room. If you would like one (anywhere in the world), leave a comment below and I will email you to get your mailing address. Have a fun and safe weekend!
