You MUST read this before buying the Summer Playsafe Playard. Don’t worry – this playpen hasn’t been recalled or anything like that, but I really think you need to read what I have to say about it.
If you’re like many parents, maybe you were lured into purchasing this playpen. If so, I don’t think you’re making a bad choice. After doing some research, I’ve found that this playpen is very similar to the Baby Kids Playpen 8, which is also built with panels.
How Important Is Safety?
If you’re a good parent, then you care about safety. I always look into every product that I purchase for my kids. With the way some manufacturers are disregarding our children’s safety these days, you really don’t have any choice but to know what you’re spending your money on.
I believe safety is crucial, and regardless of how ‘fun’ it might be, I don’t want my kids playing in a product that isn’t safe. At a glance, the Summer Playsafe Playard looks safe enough. It uses the popular panel design that many playpens use. Basically, the playpen consists of several panels, which gives you the freedom to shape the playpen to your liking. This playpen is quite tall, at just over 30 inches. I’ll be honest with you – I’m not a big fan of the locking mechanism that this playpen uses.
I believe the manufacturer could’ve invested a bit more effort into a more reliable locking mechanism. I’m not saying that this playpen isn’t secure, but I do believe it could be MORE secure and with minimal effort from the manufacturer. Nonetheless, I do still like this product.
This playpen is targeted at females and is foldable. The panels are made from plastic, and you can choose between six or four panels. I think this playpen is great for sectioning off areas of your home. When compared to similar panel-playpens, I believe this product is easier to set up.
You might need a decent amount of muscle to lug this playpen around the house. At half the cost of many similar playpens, I would expect this product to have more reviews. On websites like Amazon, it has over 300 reviews and a total rating of 4 stars. Most of those reviews are 4 and 5-stars, with a handful of 1 to 3-star reviews.
What I Like and Don’t Like
I like that this playpen is significantly taller than other models, so it’s nearly impossible for your children to climb over it and escape. For the price, this playpen definitely serves its purpose. I don’t like that this playpen is a bit more flimsy than similar products. I don’t like that the holes in the panels are quite easy for the kids to stick their feet and hands through.
When compared with some other products, this playpen definitely feels flimsy, especially when compared with playpens made of metal. However, for the price, I don’t think you can go wrong with this playpen. I really like its tan color – not sure why? Overall, this playpen is worth the money and will surely serve its purpose.
